Excess Protection for Couriers
Keep your courier business moving with Breakdown Cover designed for courier van drivers. This Nationwide & Home policy provides roadside assistance, vehicle recovery and Home Assist to help minimise disruption if your van suffers an unexpected breakdown.
Suitable for courier vans aged 0–15 years, this cover helps you get back on the road as quickly as possible, whether you're making local deliveries or travelling across the UK.

Courier Van Breakdown Cover
When your van is your livelihood, an unexpected breakdown can quickly disrupt deliveries and affect your working day. Courier Breakdown Cover is designed to provide assistance when your vehicle becomes immobilised following an insured breakdown within the territorial limits of your policy.
Your policy includes roadside assistance for a wide range of insured incidents, including electrical or mechanical failure, punctures, flat batteries, lack of fuel, lack of charge, misfuelling, fire, theft, attempted theft, vandalism and certain accidents. If your van cannot be repaired at the roadside, Nationwide Recovery is included to help get your vehicle to your chosen destination or home, subject to the terms of the policy.
Unlike standard Nationwide Cover, this policy also includes Home Assist, allowing you to request assistance if your courier van breaks down at or within one mile of your home address.
This product is available for courier vans aged between 0 and 15 years and is intended for vehicles recorded as courier vehicles on the Policy Schedule.

What's Covered
Courier Breakdown Cover provides assistance if your courier van becomes immobilised following an insured breakdown within the territorial limits of your policy.
Nationwide & Home Cover includes roadside assistance for electrical or mechanical failure, punctures, flat batteries, lack of fuel, lack of charge, misfuelling, fire, theft, attempted theft, vandalism and certain accidents. If your van cannot be repaired at the roadside, your policy also includes Nationwide Recovery together with a range of additional benefits designed to help you continue your journey.
*The insured events above are summarised from the IPID. Full terms, conditions, exclusions and eligibility requirements are contained within the Policy Wording.
Roadside Assistance
If your courier van suffers an insured breakdown, a recovery operator will attend your location and spend up to 60 minutes attempting to repair the vehicle at the roadside.
If the vehicle cannot be repaired during this time, recovery will be arranged in accordance with the Nationwide & Home level of cover.
Overnight Accommodation
If your courier van cannot be repaired immediately, the policy may contribute towards overnight accommodation instead of arranging long-distance recovery.
The available contribution is:
✔ Up to £150 for one person, or
✔ £75 per person, up to a maximum of £500.
Nationwide Recovery
If your courier van cannot be repaired on the same day, Nationwide Recovery allows your vehicle to be transported either to your home address or to a destination of your choice within the territorial limits of the policy.
This benefit is included as standard with Nationwide & Home Cover.
Locked Keys Assistance
If your keys are accidentally locked inside your courier van, a recovery operator will attend and attempt to retrieve them.
The policy covers the call-out costs associated with this service, helping you regain access to your vehicle and continue your journey.
Home Start
If your courier van breaks down at or within one mile of your home address, roadside assistance can be requested to help you get back on the road.
Without Home Assist, roadside assistance would normally only be available when the breakdown occurs more than one mile from home.
Driver Illness or Injury
If illness or injury prevents you from continuing your journey, the policy may contribute up to £500 towards returning your courier van to your home address.
This benefit helps ensure your vehicle can be recovered safely when you are unable to drive.
Alternative Travel
If your courier van cannot be repaired locally and you choose to have it repaired nearby instead of using long-distance recovery, the policy may contribute up to £250 towards alternative travel costs.
This benefit is intended to help you continue your journey while your vehicle is being repaired, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
Caravan or Trailer Recovery
If your courier van breaks down while towing a caravan or trailer of up to 23 feet, it can also be recovered as part of the breakdown assistance service.
Recovery is provided subject to the terms, conditions and limits of your policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Motor Excess Protection
Your motor insurance company can ask you to pay two types of excess on your motor vehicle.
-
Compulsory excess is an amount your insurance insists you pay for any repair/write-off or claim.
-
Voluntary excess is the amount you choose and is on top of any compulsory amount your insurance company has insisted upon.
Increasing voluntary excess can significantly affect your motor insurance premium cost. Even a tiny increase to provide a higher voluntary excess amount can save hundreds of pounds depending on driving history; age claims history, etc.
CoverMyMotor Cover includes:
-
Cover options range between £300 to £2,000
-
You can make multiple claims up to the annual aggregate limit of your excess policy
-
Cover available for motorbikes, private cars, commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, taxis, couriers and driving instructors
What "Excess" means in motor insurance
When you claim on your motor insurance, you usually must pay a portion of the repair or replacement cost yourself, called the excess.
There are typically two types:
-
Compulsory excess – set by the insurer
-
Voluntary excess – an amount you choose to increase to reduce your premium
Example:
-
Repair cost after an accident: £2,000
-
Your total excess: £400
Without excess protection:
-
You pay £400, insurer pays £1,600
With a motor excess protection insurance in place with CoverMyMotor you get back the £400 excess you had to pay on your motor insurance claim.
Example with protection:
-
Accident happens
-
Your main insurer asks you to pay £400 excess
-
You pay it
-
The excess protection policy reimburses the £400
So you effectively don’t lose that money.
